Our Programs
Therapeutic Riding
Therapeutic Riding uses equine-assisted activities for the purpose of contributing positively to the cognitive, physical, emotional and social well-being of individuals with a physical, emotional, learning disability and other similar challenges or limitations. Therapeutic Riding is the process of teaching equine activities and riding skills to individuals with physical, emotional, cognitive, or learning disabilities. It can positively impact ones sense of physical, emotional, and social well being. Horse back riding also provides recreational opportunities for individuals with disabilities to enjoy the outdoors, and to make connections to nature for their lifetime.
Therapeutic Interactive Vaulting
Therapeutic Interactive Vaulting is an activity in which the participants perform movements on and around the horse. These movements can be very simple such as sitting without holding onto the surcingle or a more elaborate compulsory move such as kneeling or standing on the horse. Interactive Vaulting fosters teamwork, teaches respect for the horse, fosters independence, builds confidence, encourages social interaction, offers individualized instruction while mounted, and it introduces all gaits in a short period of time.
Animal Program
Goat kids arrive in spring, and offer many opportunities to understand the developmental process, and herd behavioral characteristics of these entertaining creatures. Hands on care and learning how to socialize animals, involves animal care with an ethical slant.
Expressive Arts with Horses
The expressive arts program is a unique approach suited to cultivating an awareness of and participatory experience into classical horsemanship, the creative process, and physical fitness; that encourages making connections to nature through outdoor programs and activities. Through an interactive approach to these activities, people of all ages will learn to inquire, explore, and synthesize concepts that are new and different. In the end this challenging experience hopes to engender growth both intellectually, physically, and creatively, while tapping into attitudes of compassion, discriminate thinking, and appreciation for nature, creativity, physical awareness and personal expression. Sequential lessons incorporate the equine and experimentally based instruction to assist in developing self esteem, better communication skills, self awareness, self expression training, and a continuing support group of positive role models and mentors for people working towards self-sufficient independence.
The opportunity to mentor the creative spirit starts with ourselves, and starts with playful encounters in self expression. Any introduction into healthy self expression is a victory in the field of personal growth. Setting up the experience in regard to privacy, safety, and within a trusting atmosphere, allows the participants to make personal discoveries and to give feedback.
